Wendy Ramshaw Columbus Screen, London

McDonald Architects provided project management and construction detailing services to Wendy Ramshaw CBE RDI. Wendy Ramshaw is a world renowned artist and jeweller, she was commissioned by Canary Wharf PLC to design and make a railing or screen for the edge of Columbus Courtyard. Wendy designed a beautiful unique screen which is some fifteen meters long and over two meters tall in places. The courtyard name provided the inspiration for the screen with the design being influenced by navigational charts used by the famous explorer. The screen is constructed from solid steel plates which total over 6 tons in weight, the design has been cut through the plates which gives glimpses of the blue acrylic sheets suspended from the rear face.
